Tallow has natural antibacterial, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties and similar fat saturation levels to humans, making it easy for our body to absorb all the benefits. It is an excellent source of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) which is a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. I prefer to do a dry render. Currently it is popular to wet render, which means you add water and salt to help purify the tallow. While this may seem great, any water left behind in the tallow may cause mold, bacteria growth, and spoilage. Tallow is shelf stable for a year! (I say probably more but we will go with what the big guys say.) I render multiple times and filter each render to achieve the perfect ‘cake’ for skincare!

Tallow does have a natural odor, it smells different to everyone and some may love it, while others may not. Some batches don't smell like tallow at all while some do end up with a faint tallow smell, it all depends on a variety of factors that are impossible to control. This is an animal product!

When tallow gets cold it becomes more firm. Some batches may be harder than others as well. Tallow is a natural product which means factors that are out of my control may change the texture of the product, such as what the animal eats or what season it is. If your tallow seems grainy, don’t fret, the healing properties are still the same. Just gently massage into your skin to warm it up and it will absorb as usual.
